Here’s Why Your AC Is Probably Struggling

Temperatures are breaking records as we’re in the middle of summer, so it’s really no surprise that our air conditioners are starting to struggle. While it’s important that your AC keeps you comfortable in your home, it’s also important that we don’t neglect it and allow it to fall into disrepair through sheer overuse. That’s what we’re going to cover in our blog post today.

It’s time we work together to help keep air conditioners from being worked into the ground, and start running them the right way.

We’re here to tell you about three things. The first is that your AC might need air conditioning repair in Blackfoot, AB. The second is that AC maintenance can help keep your system in good shape. And the third point is that there are a few things you can do as a homeowner that will improve the efficiency and output of your system.

When to Call for AC Repair in Blackfoot

Your air conditioner could be struggling from the influx of hot temperatures. While this is a given, you need to be able to notice the problems as they crop up, so you can call for professional help. Don’t be mistaken—an air conditioner should be able to still provide your home with quality comfort, regardless of how hot it is outside. The degree to which your system can cool your home might differ, but you should know when to call us for repairs. Here are just a few good reasons to call us.

  • High energy bills.
  • Lukewarm air coming from the vents.
  • Strange or uncomfortable noises.
  • Electrical problems and tripping circuits.

Be Sure to Set Your Thermostat Correctly

How cool your home can be might depend somewhat on the temperature outside. This is what we call in the industry, the temperature differential. It means that your air conditioner can only reasonably cool your home about 20 degrees below the outdoor temperature. Trying to cool off your house beyond this point will just lead to inefficiency and your system working too hard for very few results.

For example, if the temperature outside is 100 degrees and rising, your air conditioner can’t cool your home below 80 degrees since this is the temperature differential. Setting your thermostat below this point would just lead to inefficiency and you wouldn’t be able to feel much of a difference. Try setting your thermostat to a reasonable degree and use ceiling fans, cool drinks, and other methods to stay comfortable in your home.

Invest in AC Maintenance Once Per Year

Maintenance is incredibly important for your air conditioner, and sometimes homeowners don’t realize that until it’s too late. The only way for your AC to effectively and efficiently combat the hot temperatures of summer is with yearly maintenance. This allows for a professional technician to provide adjustments to efficiency, minor fixes that can stop repairs from cropping up, and to test the system and ensure it’s ready for the summer.

Did you skip maintenance this year? Don’t worry about it, late maintenance is always better than no maintenance at all!
