Stay Far Away From Drain Chemicals

This is a pretty important thing we need all of our customers to be aware of. Think of this like a public service announcement by the professional plumbers of Lloydminster. We don’t just focus on drain cleaning in Lloydminster, SK, we also focus on helping homeowners keep their drains in good condition.

If you’ve ever thought about buying one of those bright, colorful bottles of chemical drain cleaner from the grocery store, then you’re not alone. There’s a huge market for these chemicals, and a lot of homeowners have their cabinets stocked full of them. It doesn’t really matter which brand you’ve chosen, you’ve most likely chosen wrong.

Let us explain—chemical drain cleaners are a terrible idea for a number of different reasons. We’ll get into those reasons below. And, if you’re looking for a better solution for your drain clog, then we’ve got that as well. Just keep reading!

They’re Caustic and Corrosive

When we say that these materials are caustic or corrosive, we’re not using the layman’s definition. They’re not just “icky” or “bad,” we mean they’re actually caustic, which signifies that they’re the opposite on the pH scale of acids and will eat away at the lining of your plumbing system to the point where you’ll be lucky to have a pipe there at all!

Listen, your pipes are designed to work with water and waste. They’d last a lot longer if that’s all they had to deal with. When you start pouring caustic chemicals into them and start allowing for some corrosive materials to come in contact with your pipe system, you’re dooming your plumbing system to a short lifespan and a whole host of repairs you’ll need soon.

Negative Health Effects—Yikes!

Have you ever smelled one of these chemicals? They smell terrible to the point where your bathroom is nearly unusable after you pour them down the drain. And to top it all off, these chemicals are usually accompanied by horrible fumes that make homeowners cringe and their eyes twitch.

There are many negative health effects associated with drain cleaning chemicals, to the point where you’re just going to want to avoid them entirely. The thought of maybe clearing a drain clog isn’t worth the nose, eye, mouth, and throat irritation.

Terrible for the Environment

What happens to the wastewater that flows down your drain? It doesn’t magically disappear. Everything that heads through your sewer system ends up in a water treatment facility and eventually back into the environment. Yes—that includes chemicals.

If you’re pouring chemicals down your drain, you’re pouring them into the environment which can have a very negative effect on wildlife and your property. Especially when these chemicals leak out of your sewer and onto your land, you might see some awful effects.

They Barely Work

Don’t even get us started on how poorly these chemicals work. We’d rather you just call our team of plumbers instead. No seriously, that’s always a better option than using chemical drain cleaners. Our industrial plungers, drain snakes, and hydro jet systems can easily remove any clog, no matter the size.

It’s time to call Guardian Plumbing & Heating Ltd., Lloydminster’s plumbing and heating authority!
